why the enneagram?

Through my adult life, my careers have included elementary teacher, youth director, church missions director, community organizer, Fed Ex package handler, travel agent, and now, I am adding Enneagram to that list.

Common responses have been, “Huh, what is the Enn..- wait, how do you say it?”, but even more, people have asked me, “Why? What spurred this path for you?”

The answer: pain.

Seven years ago, I was facing down divorce and the loss of Mike and a 30 year marriage.  Through the pain and heartbreak, I began seeking a better understanding of myself and of our relationship dynamics.

A friend, Diane, gave me an Enneagram book that I left sitting in a basket for 2 years before picking it up to read.  When I did read it, I was opened to a journey that has been life-changing for me over the past five years.

Not only have several blind spots been revealed to me, but the Enneagram has offered holistic healing in the way of psychology (the mind), somatics (the body), and spirituality (the soul).  No other tool has been as comprehensive in nature for me, and I believe strongly that work through the Enneagram leads us to freer, fuller living as we come home to our beloved true Selves.

It’s not uncommon that a person’s pain turns into passion and purpose for them.  This is true for me, as I seek to move forward on my own journey, yes, but also in the gift and calling of walking with others on their own unique, yet connected, wholehearted journeys.

Right foot, left foot- together, my fellow wanderers.
